PARA-POWERLIFTING

Updated: Oct 14, 2024

Para Powerlifting or Para-Po as it is affectionately known, is a Paralympic sport where men and women compete at lifting as much weight as they can, by doing bench press.

Athletes with an impairment compete in men's or women's categories in weight classes.

Athletes are given 3 attempts and the winner ids the competitor that lifts the most amount of weight in comparison to body weight.

At Physique Training, we offer training and coaching at all levels, from the complete beginner to the athlete who is looking to compete at State, National or even at the Paralympics, like our very own WA hero, and record holder, Benny Wright pictured here.

Even if you are wheelchair bound, like Ben, there is no disadvantage to you when doing bench press. It relies on upper body and core strength, something that we all require for daily living.

Is it expensive? Well if your just competing for fun and not looking at entering an event such as the nationals or Olympics, then all you need is a good attitude, a pair of comfy shorts or training pants and a T shirt!

We use a special a bench and weight plates at our facility, so you get the best possible results and experience, and our coaches are trained and experienced so that you get to train safely and in an inclusive environment every time.
